How MailControl works

The system works by redirecting the e-mail from your domain using what is known as an MX (Mail Exchange) record. The redirected e-mail then flows through the cloud where it is filtered for spam, viruses and images, and optionally archived for safe keeping. Once the e-mail has been filtered, it is sent on to your own e-mail server which means you are only receiving clean e-mail rather than spam as well. This helps to reduce the load on your e-mail server and improve your bandwidth.

MailControl is a fully managed service that requires no special hardware or software to be installed other than an operational e-mail server such as Microsoft® Exchange, Exim/Sendmail or similar.

The system works by receiving e-mail that is destined for your domain name - this is achieved with a small change to your domain name record. The e-mail messages are then scanned, filtered and cleaned according to rules that suit your organisation and then the e-mail is forwarded on to your e-mail server where it is delivered to the recipient. Simple and effective.
